Plant Demolition

Tenneco

This Tenneco facility located in Kettering, Ohio was used to make shocks and structs for General Motors. GCD | PDI was responsible for removing was 167,000 square feet of the 1,000,000 square foot manufacturing plant.
Plant Demolition

The project involved taking out all the waste from the water line above the cord line which were not removed by the prior tenant. Some of the challenges included having to work around electrical bus bars and domestic water lines in a safe and timely manner.

The second phase included two smokestacks. One of the smokestacks was a coal stack and the other was a steam stack. The coal stack was 90 feet above the roofline whereas the steam stack was 100 feet above the roofline with another 15 feet below the roofline.

The stacks were picked apart within two separate lifting operations. The lifting operations were managed by cutting the stacks in half and using a 225T crane loaded with an I beam was placed between the stacks. GCD | PDI would then lift the stacks and move them to a safe spot for dismantling.

Lastly, the water tanks used for the smokestacks were removed using a 100T excavator equipped with a processor. The excavator then chewed apart the water tanks to finish the plant demolition.
